Accomodations with a Purpose:
“Alojamiento con propósito”

Regenerative architecture is the practice of engaging the natural world as the medium for, and generator of the architecture. It responds to and utilizes the living and natural systems that exist on a site that become the “building blocks” of the architecture. Regenerative architecture has two focuses; it is the architecture that focuses on conservation and performance through a focused reduction of the environmental impacts of a building. It is embodied in the material selection, reduced energy consumption, and intelligent design. The second, more profound piece of regenerative architecture is the treatment of the environment as an equal shareholder in the architecture. It is a practice that employs a full and comprehensive understanding of natural and living systems in the design of a structure.

Casa Palmer

Casa Palmer is one of our most proud and beloved projects in the Urban Regeneration & Rehabilitation sector here in Puerto Rico. In 2021, we embarked alongside our collaborators, Architecture José Juan García from Lleillei Architecture and BNBPR (Bed & Breakfast Puerto Rico), on the project that We called, “Alojamientos con Propósitos''.

Our purpose is to build a path for future developments by repurposing abandoned buildings and giving them a new meaning. We will not only rehabilitate a building, we will regenerate life and purpose. We will also aim to rehabilitate a community by giving the residents a new formula for doing business and creating collaborations within the businesses in the community for it to grow as a whole. It will be a symbiotic relationship and in a way will be able to stop gentrification in the communities.

We will give the residents the control to choose their future.

CASA PALMER’s primary and most important goal and objective are to provide the Palmer Community with a footprint in developing accommodations with a PURPOSE or “Alojamiento con Propósito ''. Sharing and including the local community and businesses is one of the utmost important conditions and goals. Making the community an intrinsic part of CASA PALMER.

  1. To rehabilitate and restore the area known as Palmer Community, “La Puerta al Yunque”.
  2. To Rescue the unknown mining history of Río Grande and Palmer.
  3. To contribute back into the community creating jobs and collaborations between local businesses and Casa Palmer.
  4. To establish the first “Alojamiento con Propósito” in Puerto Rico as a foundation and model to follow in future developments throughout the Island.
  5. To rewrite the meaning and purpose of tourism accommodations.
  6. To develop a sustainable concept utilizing local resources and rescue raw materials.

Palmer (officially Sector Palmer) is a small settlement and sector in the barrio Mameyes II of Río Grande, Puerto Rico. The Luquillo Mountains have a long history that involves pre-Columbian cultures, Spanish colonization, gold mining and timber exploitation, the construction of access roads and facilities, and ultimately forest management and research.

The Municipality of Río Grande is located to the east of Puerto Rico, in the region called North Coastal Plains, facing the Atlantic Ocean. Its territorial limits are the Atlantic Ocean to the north; to the south, the municipalities of Naguabo and Las Piedras; to the east, the municipalities of Luquillo and Ceiba; and to the west, the municipalities of Loíza and Canovanas. The territory as a whole covers some 61 square miles for a total of 40,075 cuerdas, with an average height of 30 feet above sea level.

Río Grande is  the second largest city in Puerto Rico visited by tourists, home to one of the largest secluded areas with beach access (Coco Beach) on the entire island. Major hotels in the area include Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Resort and Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve. Every March, Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve plays host to the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open. Within a ten-minute drive is El Yunque National Forest, the only tropical rain forest within the United States National Forest System.
